The answer is when it’s in Theresa May’s manifesto.
Her manifesto (and it is hers) says that there will be a £4bn increase in education spending over the life of the Parliament. Allowing for inflation it is a marginal increase in spending – providing inflation stays where it is .
However, it’s not just about inflation. Pupil numbers are rising too. The IFS says that the result will be a 3% cut in education funding.
Bearing in mind the cuts to free school meals and vanity projects of free schools, academies and grammar schools (which receive additional funding out of the pot) our local schools are going to struggle to make ends meet.
Of course, if you send your children to a private school it won’t affect you…
