Yesterday’s announcement is exactly what we didn’t need.

We didn’t do as well as we would have liked in the General Election but it was more to do with the media agenda than to do with Tim or the party. The Tory media wanted a Corbyn – May battle because that was the way for her to win. They were wrong but our vote got squeezed as a result.

What we needed was a period of reflection to learn, regroup and move forward. As a result of what seems to have been a piece of personal (and illiberal) self-indulgence on the part of a few people we are now in a period of turmoil when we most needed a strong anti-Brexit message. We may have another General Election shortly and rather than thinking about that we will be looking inwards.
