One in five small firms in the UK employ workers from the EU and 59% of these are worried about accessing people with the skills they need post-Brexit, according to research by the Federation of Small Businesses.
Some small businesses are even considering moving their businesses abroad if there were additional barriers to recruiting EU workers.
Meanwhile skilled EU workers who contribute to our economy, pay their taxes and help fund our public services are being made to feel unwelcome. Some of Richmondshire’s businesses heavily rely on EU workers and services like the NHS would collapse without EU nationals.
Theresa May has repeatedly refused to guarantee the rights of EU workers citing that it would be part of the negotiations. In 2003 she said that the Tories need to stop being the ‘nasty party’. Now she’s in charge she seems determined to make them even nastier!
