On Saturday Richmondshire LibDems supported North Yorkshire for Europe with their street survey. Thanks to Jane Parlour, Philip Wicks, Philip Knowles, Jo Foster, Mark Harrison and John and Baroness Harris for their support on the day.
The results were an overwhelming ‘Yes’ for a People’s Vote. Out of just short of 150 responses 129 said there should be a People’s Vote. This was the highest majority for a People’s Vote that North Yorkshire for Europe have received so far. Many of the responders were from Leavers who have now changed their mind but also some Leavers who felt that ‘the People started this it should be the People who have the final say;.
Previously the street stalls have been in Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk and Northallerton/ Every single one has had a majority for a People’s Vote. They’re in Leyburn Market Place on Friday 7th September.
After helping out on the Street Stall, Jo Foster and Philip Wicks shot off down to Knaresborough to meet Clive World and Emma Collins to help our Harrogate and Knaresborough cousins who are fighting a by-election. We only lost the seat by 32 votes in May so we’re hoping to turn the tables on Thursday.
Meanwhile, The Observer reported that 112 Parliamentary Constituencies have switched from Leave to Remain. Among the seats changing are those of Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and, wait for it, the Honourable Member for the 18th Century, one Jacob Rees-Mogg. We’ll see how much they believe in representing the will of the people when it comes to the votes in Parliament.
If you want to have your say, you can join the People’s Vote Rally at the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle on 25th August. You can get your ticket here
