Most of the residents at Queen’s Court sheltered housing scheme are unhappy because the Council have told them that they can no longer have individual meters measuring their heating.
A new heating system is to be installed which will result in communal bills. Each person will pay the same amount regardless of individual energy usage.
82% of the residents signed a petition opposing this change. On July 25th it was presented to a full meeting of Richmondshire District Council. Clive and Lorraine submitted a motion in support which asked the Council to reconsider.
Unfortunately, it was rejected by 17 to 10 as the Tory majority group voted together. Clive said, ‘The argument about the costs of the meters was clearly flawed. We do not understand why the Tories did not send this to Scrutiny. The residents are left feeling let down and angry.”
