Following the passing of Yvette Cooper’s EU Withdrawal Bill tonight in the House of Commons, which passed by one vote, Leader of the Liberal Democrats Vince Cable said:

“This is welcome progress since the Commons has endorsed what has been obvious to anyone sensible for some time – Article 50 must be extended well beyond May 22nd.
“The Prime Minister should take this mandate to the EU Council, but she will also need a clear purpose for the extension.
“Horse trading with the Leader of the Opposition will not cut it in Brussels, so she should make clear that she is preparing legislation for a People’s Vote to take place on her deal versus remaining in the EU.”
