Commenting on A&E waiting times former Liberal Democrat Health Minister Norman Lamb, said:
“Today’s figures highlight the extraordinary pressure that hospitals are under across England. Immediate action is needed to ensure that A&E services – as well as the wider health and care system – are properly funded.
“Data which emerged today from the British Social Attitudes Survey shows that there is a strong consensus in the country that the NHS is under grave funding pressure.
“The government must adopt the Liberal Democrat policy of putting a penny in the pound on income tax to plug the funding gap immediately and then, to protect the long-term future of the health service, introduce a dedicated tax for the NHS and care.”
