Former Brexit Secretary David Davis has called on members of the Cabinet to “exert their collective authority” and rebel against Theresa May’s Chequers proposal.
Speaking to Sophy Ridge this morning, former Conservative Leader Iain Duncan Smith added that he would not back May’s latest backstop offer to the EU.
Responding, Liberal Democrat Leader Vince Cable said:
“This chaotic Conservative Brexit was supposed to settle the party’s civil war over Europe. It has not. This is a Conservative disaster foisted on the rest of the country.
“Davis is simply about the hundredth Tory MP to have a hundredth nasty, public disagreement with his own leadership. Duncan Smith is about the 101st.
“We need to escape this mess democratically, which is why we have called on the British people to have the final say on any deal.”
